Dar es Salaam. Former Chadema secretary general Zitto Kabwe yesterday remained mum on his future political plans but said he wished the best of luck to the newly installed opposition party officials.
In a one-line reaction to the recent changes at Chadema in which his former role was taken by Ubungo MP John Mnyika, Mr Kabwe said he wished not to comment on the internal affairs of the party with which he has been at loggerheads.
“I have chosen not to comment on Chadema issues. I wish the new office bearers the best,” said Mr Kabwe in an email communication to The Citizen. Mr Kabwe had resisted attempts by the party to defrock him through a case that is still pending in court.
He was earlier suspended alongside two other senior officials after they were accused of plotting to overthrow the then top Chadema officials. Despite the outcome of the court case, Mr Kabwe’s divorce from Chadema, a party under which he built a quick and successful career, appears to have been sealed.
Yesterday, an official of the Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT)-Tanzania, the party launched recently by people close to Mr Kabwe, and which is believed to be his next political vehicle, said they would welcome the Kigoma North MP as the doors were open for him.
Mr Freeman Mbowe was re-elected as chairman during the party’s latest line up of national officials.
ACT-Tanzania secretary general Samson Mwigamba, who was sacked along with Mr Kabwe told The Citizen that in simple analysis there was now no room for Mr Kabwe in Chadema.
